I'm setting up a casual string ensemble that plays arrangements of music from video games, films, anime etc. This is just for fun (at least to start with, but if we can get a good sound, do some recordings and find some gigs outdoors or in other well-ventilated spaces, that'd be great).
Players: So far we have 4 violins and 1 viola. The main set up will ideally be 4 violins, 2 violas, and 2 cellos, but a double bass player and occasional guests on other instruments would be amazing. The players involved so far are a mix of professional, semi-professional and advanced amateurs, so I'm looking for other players who at similar levels.
Repertoire: I've sourced a few amazing arrangements worth paying for, which I'd like to split the costs of between all the players (myself included - I'm one of the violinists). I've also arranged some pieces myself and plan to do more of that. I have an eye out for freely available arrangements too. suggestions welcome.
Rehearsals: I'm based in west London and have room to host. I doubt this is'll be a super regular thing, more like meet once in a while and practice independently before coming together to focus on ensemble playing. We'll decide on frequency and rehearsal dates based on everyone's availability.
Covid protections: I want to create an environment where everyone is proactive about taking precautions to reduce covid risk. Before the first rehearsal we'll discuss this online and collectively agree to protections that we all can take each time we meet in person. ??I have a HEPA filter air purifier and will open multiple windows + the garden door during rehearsals when the weather isn’t too cold.
Note: This ensemble will not tolerate any level of covid denialism, anti-vax/anti-mask attitudes, ableism or any other form of bigotry. People who can't have the covid vaccine or wear a mask for genuine medical reasons are welcome to join, and this will inform the measures we agree upon to keep each other safe. |
